Assignments – October 15 – 24 *****All students should plan to do a spoken presentation for every second class. Everybody should also be prepared to record presentations outside of class in mp3 format. Group A students should focus on the “prepared speeches” in this order: “Chinese dishes and MSG,” “Putongyingxiong” and “How to eat Peking Duck” These speeches can be found under the “Listening Materials” or “Prepared Speeches” tabs. Putongyingxiong is a song, so prepare to read it as if it is a poem. When doing the speeches, you may have the script to refer to, but you cannot look at it while actually speaking. All students not in group A should be prepared to read your story after it has been checked and returned to you, but the target date is Oct 23. All non-group A students should also practice “How to eat Peking Duck” and “Putongyingxiong.”
Oct. 17 – In class. We will continue study of “Putongyingxiong,” all students should practice listening to this song, and also learn to read it as a “poem.” Selected in-class presentations. We will begin “Who stole Bob’s Ipod.” This is related to topic E, "How to reach a conclusion from a set of facts." The text of "Bob's Ipod" has been forwarded to you as a Word attachment in WebCT. You may also find the text under the listening tab although the audio won't be available until Saturday October 20. We should finish reading most of this in class. All students need to continue reading this outside of class, so you could read it as a presentation. Group A students can focus on the first part (facts 1-7). As we have time we will practice “Chinese Dishes and MSG” (see prepared speeches tab) and “How to eat Peking Duck” (see listening tab). Oct 22 – Everybody should be ready to do some presentation. Keep in mind that everybody should be constantly preparing one of the speeches from the “Prepared Speeches” tab or the “Listening” tab. For those of you who have already gotten feedback for your story, be ready to do this in class Oct 22 or Oct 24. Oct 24 – We will continue with the Oct 22 assignment, and will also start “Is there a Santa Claus?” The text of this will be available the week of Oct 24. |
